Biography
Kay Koplovitz is the Founder and CEO of Koplovitz & Co, a media advisory and investment firm. She is widely acclaimed as a leader in the US television and emerging media businesses, a successful entrepreneur, seasoned venture capitalist and author.
Ms Koplovitz became the first woman network president in television history when she founded USA Networks in 1977 under the banner of Madison Square Garden Sports. It was the first advertising supported basic cable network.
As a visionary of what sports television would become, Ms. Koplovitz launched major professional and collegiate sports on cable television by negotiating the first contracts for Major League Baseball, The National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League.
In 1992 Ms. Koplovitz was instrumental in the launch of the Sci-Fi Channel. Two years later she launched USA Networks International. She subsequently launched Springboard, a non-profit forum to connect women with venture capital. She currently serves as Springboard's Chairman.
From 1998 President Clinton appointed Ms. Koplovitz Chair of the bipartisan National Women's Business Council. In 2001, Ms. Koplovitz co-founded Boldcap Ventures, a venture fund backed exclusively by high net worth women seeking to grow their portfolios with venture investments.
Ms. Koplovitz is also Chairman of Liz Claiborne, having joined the board as a Director in 1992. She serves on the board of a number of non-profit organizations, including the Central Park Conservancy and the Museum of Television and Radio. She is the author of "Big Women, Big Ideas", published in May, 2002.
